My favorite aspect of the graduate degree program was its focus on practical application. Instead of just studying disaster management theory and terminology, we put our education into action through obtaining relevant certifications (such as Advanced Disaster Life Support), participating in no-notice exercises, and completing a 300 hour internship. Through these experiences, I gained valuable insight into emergency management as a practice, in addition to an academic study. In completing my Master of Public Health in Disaster Management, I felt prepared to enter the workforce and make meaningful change in public health preparedness and resilience.
