Dr. Curt Harris to depart IDM after 7 years as director

After seven years of dedicated leadership, Dr. Curt Harris will be departing the Institute for Disaster Management in February to serve as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the School of Public Health at Augusta University.

Since becoming director in 2019, following seven years as associate director, Dr. Harris has led IDM through a period of remarkable growth. Under his leadership, student enrollment increased across undergraduate and graduate programs, grant funding and research output reached historic levels, and the Institute’s national reputation was strengthened through deep partnerships and a growing alumni network.

A respected leader in public health preparedness and emergency management, Dr. Harris has devoted his career to helping communities prepare for the next disaster. His impact is reflected in nearly $50 million in funded research and countless contributions to student success. While his departure marks the end of an era for IDM, we are grateful for his lasting legacy and proud to see him step into this new role.

Dr. Charles Easley will serve as interim director.
