Course Details:

The mission of the Georgia Long Term Care Infectious Disease Educational Program (GALTCIDEP) is to provide CMS certified long term care facilities with critical knowledge, skills, and abilities related to infectious disease precautions, prevention, protection, and disinfection.

We travel the state of Georgia, providing this free, in-person, 6-hour course that anyone from a certified LTC facility is encouraged to attend, including administrators, infection preventionists, directors of nursing, clinical providers, and non-clinical staff.

Attendees receive valuable educational resources at no cost, including biannual e-newsletters, online resource portals, comprehensive informational handouts (pictured left), and educational videos for conducting facility level training in infection prevention. Courses are also eligible for 6 hours of free NAB CE credits.

Due to the program’s funding source, these courses are open to professionals representing CMS certified long term care facilities only (i.e. nursing homes), NOT personal care homes, assisted living facilities, hospice, or memory care centers.

The Educational Program began in 2021 and is currently on its third year of offering courses. The first year featured an infectious disease Foundations Course offered 14 times, one per healthcare coalition, from October 2021 – May 2022. The second year featured an infectious disease Principles Course offered 14 times, from September 2022 – April 2023. The third year includes seven offerings each of the Foundations Course and the Principles Course from September 2023 – April 2024.

If you have any questions regarding eligibility or registration, contact us at GeorgiaID@uga.edu.
